Misplaced Money

Matthew 13:1-8(NIV) -That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake.2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore.3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed.4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

I am sure this may not be a popular discussion for many religious leaders because often times the focus is on where members are spending their money as it relates to material purchases; however I want to share what the Lord revealed this week regarding seeds. The above passage shares about Jesus talking to the crowd regarding a farmer sowing his seed. Now, we know today's seed is talked about on the church platform as your money and this is where the Lord wants me to begin. I want to discuss our misplaced money. I want to discuss our incorrectly positioned money. What do I mean incorrectly positioned? I mean sowing those seeds on a path that is not yielding fruit. Don't just keep misplacing your money on designated titles on church envelopes and online giving apps and you have yet to seen a harvest in any of those areas after 10+ years of sowing. The word of God even warns us about the soil. Some things are just not going to grow and some are going to grow, but get choked out. In fact, the Lord loves a cheerful giver, but we must ask for wisdom in our giving so our money is not incorrectly positioned. Misplaced money is like investing into the stock market and at some point through the fluctuation of the stock market you eventually see a return and if not you have an opportunity to reinvest your money.

Hear me today, God does not want us to misplace our money. He want us to sow on good soil, where it produces a hundred, sixty or thirty time return.
