Keep your lamp trimmed and burning

Matthew 25: 1-6 (KJV)- Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.

6 “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom [a] is coming; go out to meet him!’7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.

How are you coming along with your trimming? Merriam-Webster defines trim in multiples ways but the definition that the Lord was speaking about this morning is captured in three words- ready for service. We are being prepared for service in God's kingdom. Trimming has been taken place during Covid-19 and all of us have been in our preparation time for this great commission. Trimming may be painful, yet it is rewarding. Properly trimming a lamp has several steps if you are going to get it right. Skipping steps may cause your lamp to not burn right and eventually not work. God said we must keep our wick trimmed to ensure it will burn when needed and we can answer when He calls. He said when the time comes you will not have time to get ready. The wick must be trimmed so, the oil can flow. A dim light or no light will not be sufficient; therefore we must get rid of useless things that is weighed us down and spend more time in prayer and in God's word. You don't have to face it alone. God is the master lamp trimmer and he knows what exactly how and what to do. It is up to us if we allow God to help us. He has the capacity to keep filling our lamps and guiding us on how to trim our wicks. If you haven't been trimming your lamp, then start now, before it's too late.
